HARARE - Greece-based Zimbabwe national team forward Tinotenda Kadewere has suffered a knee injury setback ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a blow that could see him miss the prestigious continental tournament set for December in Morocco. Reports indicate that the 29-year-old striker tore the medial meniscus in his right knee during a training session last week and has since undergone surgery. In a statement, his Greek club Aris Thessaloniki confirmed the development and expressed disappointment over the timing of the injury. "Unfortunately, the news is not good for Tino Kadewere. According to the MRI results, the Zimbabwe international striker, who was injured in training, suffered a torn medial meniscus in his right knee and will undergo immediate surgery," the club said. The operation is expected to sideline Kadewere for at least three months, though recovery time could extend further depending on the severity of the injury. This timeline could effectively rule him out of the 2025 AFCON finals, which are scheduled to take place in Morocco from late December to early January. Meanwhile, another Zimbabwe Warriors striker, Thando Ngwenya, is nearing a return to action after suffering an ankle injury in a match against Kaizer Chiefs a few weeks ago. Ngwenya began his rehabilitation two weeks ago and is reported to be almost fully recovered, with expectations that he will be match-fit within the next week.
