Remo Stars have denied reports suggesting that their head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has resigned from the club.
The Nigeria Premier League champions confirmed on Wednesday that the 45-year-old remains fully in charge and continues to enjoy the club's backing as he balances his role with the Super Eagles.
Rumours about Ogunmodede's exit spread earlier in the week after several outlets claimed he had walked away following a disagreement with the club hierarchy. His recent absence from the dugout only added fuel to the story.
The coach has not been on the sidelines since Remo Stars' 5-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg.
He also missed the return fixture and last weekend's 3-1 defeat to Kwara United. It was later revealed that Ogunmodede was in Abuja attending a CAF B coaching course, part of his effort to upgrade his credentials.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ikenne-based club dismissed the resignation talk. "Remo Stars Football Club wishes to clarify that our head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, remains an integral part of our technical crew and continues to serve as the head coach of Remo Stars FC. Daniel is presently attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja as part of his continuous professional development and commitment to personal and technical growth," the statement read.
The club also confirmed that Ogunmodede will continue his national team duties alongside Super Eagles manager Éric Chelle. His involvement with the national setup has seen him miss several club games, including more than ten league matches last season when Remo Stars went on to lift their first-ever NPFL title.
"He will also continue his national assignment with the Nigeria national team, as the country prepares for the crucial FIFA World Cup African play-offs, the potential intercontinental play-off, and the Africa Cup of Nations later this year. We firmly believe this is a period that calls for collective national support and dedication to the success of Nigerian football," the statement added.
Ogunmodede, who signed a three-year contract extension in August 2024 that ties him to the club until 2027, has been instrumental in Remo Stars' rise in Nigerian football.
He guided the Sky Blue Stars to back-to-back second-place finishes before finally delivering their first league title last season, cementing his status as one of the brightest coaches in the NPFL.
