It was an unfortunate outcome for local supporters when former PSL side Cape Town City, now campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (National First Division), claimed maximum points with a late 3-2 win over Pietermaritzburg-based Midlands Wanderers. Wanderers, affectionately known as Abafana Bebatha, produced one of their best performances of the season at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday and were unlucky to concede in the final minutes of the encounter. "There is playing for your team and fighting for your team. Yesterday's [Sunday's] second half was the epitome of fighting for your team," said player Nduma Ndumane. Wanderers showed attacking intent, with Siduduzo Dlamini and Sandile Mkhanazi both getting on the scoresheet. Head coach Masenti Myeni commended his players' performance and said the result was harsh on his side. "We played as the home team and took the game to them. I was impressed with the way the entire team performed. What was more encouraging was that we scored twice and showed that we belong in this league," said Myeni. He added that his players are gradually adapting to the pace and demands of the NFD and predicted steady improvement in upcoming fixtures. As I always say, there's no need to panic. We're finding our rhythm, and we'll look better going forward. Wanderers next travel to Limpopo to face Venda FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday at 3.30pm. They will then remain at the same venue for a clash against Black Leopards on Wednesday.
