About Bidvest Wits
Bidvest Wits were the football club of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, and one of the most established names in South African football. Backed by the Bidvest Group for 15 years, they won the Premiership title in 2016/17 and were regular continental participants.
Status history
- June 2020 - the club's Premiership status was sold to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM), ending Bidvest's involvement after 15 years.
- 12 July 2020 - the Premier Soccer League ratified the sale. TTM took over the top-flight place and relocated it to Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
What happened to the club: selling a status transfers a league place to a different entity rather than renaming the same club, so Bidvest Wits ceased to compete at that point. Their last match in our records is 5 September 2020. TTM are a separate club and their results are recorded separately.
